Illo by Tim Riley

And Other Creatures of the Night

Part the Third

IF I WERE A MONSTER

Oh, if I were a monster,

Would I bite you on the neck?

Or bury you alive

In a basement no one checks?

And would I have electrodes

To attach electric wires

When the thunder rumbles loudly

And lightning flashes fire?

Or would I be a suave one

With a cultured laugh like so Ö

And a mustache I could twirl

Round my finger donít you know?

Would I be a devil sly

With my plans all figured out?

To carry out like clockwork

While the people run and shout?

Or would I just collect taxes?
